What is Apologetics?
Apologetics is the branch of theology that seeks to explain the reasons for the faith and expose errors to protect its integrity.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, in His Great Commission, sent us to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).
The central message of evangelization is the proclamation of the “good news,” and its primary goal is the transmission of faith and Christian doctrine. It is precisely along this path that we find the role and necessity of apologetics, which provides a philosophical and reflective accompaniment that helps people in their search for faith, offering objective arguments with demonstrative and rational reach in its favor.
The audience for apologetics includes both believers and non-believers.
Internal Apologetics seeks to equip the believer with tools to remain firm in the Catholic Christian faith and, in a testimonial and supportive way, to provide a solid foundation for it when engaging with non-believers.
External Apologetics aims to support the transmission of the Christian faith, enabling the evangelizer to “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15-16).
In this way, apologetics not only allows us to know and deepen the foundation of our faith but also enables us to transmit it effectively to non-believers, participating in and fulfilling the Great Commission of our Lord.
How can I learn apologetics?
The purpose of this page is to assist those who wish to be trained in apologetics. Helping you to know, love, and share your Catholic faith is our mission, and to achieve this, we will present a collection of article readings from this same page, drawn from our Compendium of Catholic Apologetics and other sources, carefully selected so that, by reading them in sequence, you can progressively master each of the most important topics related to Catholic apologetics. In this way, you can receive free training simply by reading and studying one article a day.
